Women are Heroes | JR
JR is one of these strange characters that somehow appears in the world and make people’s life a little better. He exhibits freely in the streets of the world, catching the attention of people who are not the museum visitors. ARTIVIST: His work mixes Art and Act, talks about commitment, freedom, identity and limit.
With this project Women, started in 2008, he embarked for a long international trip to work in the project that he describes with these words:
Women is a project in which he underlines the dignity of women who are often the targets of conflicts. Of course, it didn’t change the world, but sometimes a single laugher in an unexpected place makes you dream that it could.
Furthermore, by exposing these images in large Western cities such as Brussels in March 2008 or in London and then Paris in 2009, the project educates European people on the condition of women in other countries as Kenya, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Liberia and others and promotes the connection, through art. Violence against women during armed conflicts in Africa are the extreme expression of the discrimination. The ethnic wars in Africa are the source of the worst crimes committed against women. By meeting these women, JR wants show their strength, their courage and their battle to live first, then to exist.
